The Roasting Foundation course is designed to introduce participants to the fascinating world of coffee roasting, and is also suitable for those with no previous experience in this field. The course lasts one day and can also be taken ONLINE. During the course you will learn about the transformation process from green coffee to roasted beans, the transfer of heat and the chemical reactions that allow you to extract the most complex aromas from the raw material.
You will learn about all the physical changes that occur to coffee beans during the roasting process: water evaporation, colour change, first crack, volume change, second crack.
Participants will learn how to use data sheets to note down all the parameters of the process to produce a roasting profile: temperature, time, colour of roasted coffee, weight loss, volume increase and tasting sheet.
At the end of the course, students will be able to describe the different stages of roasting using technical terminology.

If you pass the theoretical and practical exams, you will obtain 5 credits towards the Coffee Diploma of the Coffee Skills Program and the internationally valid SCA certification.
To pass the SCA Roasting Foundation exam, no work experience in the world of coffee is required.
